Slowload –On The Road Again/Big Boobs Boogie –MAM 27 (1971 UK)
Big Boobs Boogie is a Fat-Assed Proto-Punk Metal Glam/Boogie Romper. It’s a pretty sloppy affair and appears more like an after-thought, appearing on the B side of the more polished cover of On The Road Again. It has, however, some absolutely Killer guitar moves, surprising tempo shifts and some real over the top vocalisations…It’s like Blue Cheer fed on girlie mags auditioning for Paul Raymond’s Revue Bar after The Stooges missed out on the slot.
It’s produced by Vic Maile who shares a writing credit on this opus. All I could find for background info is that a guy called Carl was in the band and is now Rick Parfitt in a Status Quo tribute band called Statin Quo. No news from him as yet…

Update: The other Slowload single is Glo Macari's Lookin' For Love (Columbia DB 8821 1971 UK) which is part early Glam (guitar and handclaps), part Gospell God is Love (the chorus), still pretty good though. The rumours were that it was Jessie Hector and gang who had backed Glo (Lou Macari's daughter) on his single.
Slowload were Neville Crozier (Bass, vocals) , Vic Martin (Drums) and Carl (Guitar)

Vic Maile did a load of production for Bronze Records didn't he - Motorhead Girlschool etc...
Thanks for your comments. I (Neville Crozier) was the singer and bass player with Slowload, and proto-punk is a good description as i was the singer and guitarist in the "Fruit Eating Bears" later on, see www.fruiteatingbears.co.uk.
We recorded many tracks with Slowload all at Pye studios, some again produced by Vic Maile, but only one more was released. The rest i still have. I now play for the "Midnight Howlers" see www.midnighthowlers.co.uk and Vic Martin who was the drummer, plays keyboards for Gary Moore. Carl as you mention is with Statin' Quo.
Hey Neville -Thanks for the info. I love it when things tie in together. I recently found out that Carl was looking after a rehearsal place here a friend of mine was rehearsing and the blog came up in conversation...small funny world. In fact Carl owns 'Rock Bottom', the large music shop in Croydon, and the rehearsal rooms are underneath.
I'm looking for a copy of the Slowload 7" for him! You would think he would have kept one!!
Well next time I need a guitar pick I will consider a 26 mile drive to get one!

I love the Planet Mondo comment - 'It's all going on there - but going in different directions' - spot on. I (Vic Martin) was largely responsible - kinda Stephen Hawking on drums. You'll be relieved to hear that I subsequently hung up my sticks, sold my drum kit and now play keyboards.
All the original PYE recorded 20 "SLOWLOAD" tracks are now available from iTunes, on their album "ON THE ROAD AGAIN 1969-1973" If you want to hear full length previews, they are also all on "Last.fm" It's taken a long time to get them all together, but I hope you enjoy them. (Neville Crozier)
