Marmalade –Our House Is Rockin’

Marmalade –Our House Is Rockin’/Hallelujah Freedom Blues –EMI 2071 (1973 UK)

Surprisingly heavy later release by the Cousin Norman mob. Both tunes are prime juicy cuts of Para Glam Boogie quite close to Hustler, Canyon, Geordie, Albatross etc…Marmalade had a pretty long career across several labels and some of their early singles and first album on CBS are definitely worth seeking out as they contained some great Psych/Pop (with 2 bass players!)

hi robin

at last – another person who's actually heard this song! i heard it about twice when it first appeared (in wellington, new zealand, probably 1974) and have never forgotten it. (bizarrely, my sister heard it quite independently and she also got hooked...) i've been looking for it ever since – it's kind of the holy grail for me, as i've managed to track down every other tune i've ever gone looking for. i would LOVE to get a copy, either on vinyl or as an mp3 (or any other digital format) – can you suggest where/how i might do so? any leads *greatly* appreciated.

cheers, andy

Hey you guys, I know this is way late after your blogs. But the album, 'Our House Is Rockin' just gotta be heard. If you think the title's good, you 'aint heard nothin'! The album is outta this wiorld and EXTREMELY rare. Has tracks of the follow up and previous singles, Come Back Jo and the superb Wishin' Well. As for the sublime tracks Mr. Heartbreaker and Gypsy Lady, well, guys! Get it at any cost!

I've worked with Marmalade many times over the years, and I've always said this was one of their best songs. If I was doing a "Best of the Marms" EP , I'd go for Cousin Norman, Radancer, Reflections, and this!

A great, great, underrated song.

Like andy the search for this song goes on - quite why it never made even the lower reaches of the UK chart has been a mystery to me for over 30 years! Apart from the album (now deleted)does anybody know of a Marmalade compilation that includes it? All the 'best of' , 'anthology' and even 'definitive' releases don't seem to include the song....

Hello, a bit late in the day but I had not heard this track for exactly 40 years until today and it's as exactly as I remember it - the only time I ever saw it was on an ITV program called Lift Off With Ayshea which was shown to coincide with when the kids got home from school. I also remember seeing David Bowie performing Starman live on the same show. No doubt every single epsiode has now been wiped.
