Melody –Steppin’ Stone

Melody –Steppin’ Stone/Look In My Eyes And Love Me –Negram NG 2216 (1977 NL)

First things first –these guys look nothing like the way they sound. Sure the singer is probably pouting to the max between sputtering out his Jaggerisms, but the track starts off like some mutant spastic skiffle (Thanks C) and then finds itself in some weird place where the earthy bluesy slide guitar base is suplemented by a sprinkling of Glam and a touch of Dumb Punk for good measure. No clue or information on these guys…apart from being sponsored by Himalaya Oriental Beauty Products and being dressed by Club De France…

Hopefully Jos or others can fill us in on who these guys are? And what ever happened to Astrid Niels?

You sure you're not mistaking Jaggerisms for Jaggerz-isms?

What? Does it sound like I Call My Baby Candy? I can't recall any of their tunes...

From Amsterdam, they had another 45 (Come Kids/Strawberry, Negram 2260) I remember a newspaper thingy statin' that they'd changed their name to Bad Melody and went punk rock...

When it came out the gimmick was the sleeve, literally DRENCHED with strawberry perfume. This explains a) the sleevenotes b) why for years my poor old mum suspected me being gay, with that pungent smell coming from under my bedroom door... Another interesting fact is that the A-side resurfaced as a B-side on their 2nd single, and that the B-side returned as an A-side, also on their 2nd single. Both with different titles and in different versions. But who was Astrid Niels ??? -- jos

I'll remember the band as they played in our discotheque in Driemond,Holland.
As dj's we received there singles for free and i remember the first sleeves were printed with a smell of strawberry.
They also used during there play some kind of deo with that same smell.
You can smell it for weeks in your clothes.
