Soho Jets - Denim Goddess/ Smile - Polydor 2058 98 (1974 UK)
Featuring Grant Stevens who would later front Razar in ‘77, Denim Goddess has a nice full production with cowbell, handclaps and an electric clavinet. The background vocals recall Mott’s Roll Away The Stone and Grant Stevens has a great voice with a very considered vocal approach. It all comes together very nicely, but it could do with a bit more grit and less polish. Denim Goddess is fine period Glam/Pop single with a very catchy chorus that makes it sound like an instantly recognisable hit. The Soho Jets released Hi Heel Tarzan as a second single, but I haven’t heard it yet.

Where the hell do you find this stuff? Good Lord! ;) Is there scope for a "Groups that sound like The Barracudas" section? Or even "Groups that sound like The Barracudas sounding like other groups"???
I agree with your comment regarding more grit less polish, I believe that "Hi Heel Tarzan" is the better single, though never heard it myself. The two Razar singles that Stevens did in 1978 are fantastic!

This is a fantastic record. Did Grant write it too?
(BTW, like me, Grant comes from Sydney. He moved to London in the early 70s. I have no idea if he did any music here first.)

This excellent track is easily in my Top 5 glam songs of all time, though it's closer to bubblegum I suppose.
I've been searching desperately for this 45rpm, but I haven't seen one surface in years. Any suggestion on record merchants I can check online? I just seriously want to make a sweet high quality digital rip for my ipod :)

Thanks for the heads up guys! As Robin said it pops up on ebay now & then as do the Razar singles. And Mr Anonymous...I was in a band called Esra in Sydney, we rocked the place for a while (various Police Boys Clubs, the usual rock clubs and the Sydney Showground in The Battle of the Bands all around 71/72). My partner in crime Ron Eve was also later in Soho Jets and Razar. I live in Berlin now caretaking my band Nervous Germans.
